ROAD BIKES 2008

If you have a need for speed and need an excuse to avoid the social stigma of wearing lycra and shaving your legs, or just appreciate a piece of beutifully crafted technology then check out our array of magic machines. Off the peg we stock

Specialized ------- Trek ------- Lemond, finally a manufacturer with subtle style and great finishing

We recommend you come in to get yourself sized up for a road bike - measurements vary hugely between make and model so being here for a testride is essential before you make your final choice.

Lemond
The Lemonds are fantastically well finish off the peg bikes and classic styling. The entry level Etape at £500 offers 6061 aluminium frame and carbon fork with a sora/105 groupset. Up from that the Reno at £600 has finer wheels and sora/105 9 speed groupset. The tourmalet offers an elegantly joined and shaped carbon rear end at £800. The Versailles is a full carbon frameset but with subtle shaping. Finished with a 105/ultegra groupset and Bontragor race wheelset at £1400. Check out the full range at Lemond. The range is very broad so there is a taster of the those available here. Best to roll by and have a chat through the options

Specialized
The specialized range starts off with the Allez and the Dolce the womens specific version. A good starters machine for those venturing into road riding. Several of our club riders use these as winter training bikes. Not finished as well as the Lemond frames but an improvement on the chainset at £500. The Allez and Dolce Elite is the top of the Allez tree with a carbon back end with damping inserts at £800. We thought this bike was a bit garish for english sensibilites so can tone them down to your needs. The Roubaix and Ruby range offers a very slique shaped full carbon frame aimed at being comfortable as well as responsive and race ready, prices starting at £1300. The Tarmac and Ruby pro are the most agile and race prepped machines available with a pro price tag of £2600. Again swing by to discuss whats best for your needs and get a sizing.

Trek
The trek range opens with the 1.2. Agian an entry level road bike at £500 aslo available in a womens specific design. Very much like the Allez and comes down to your style decisions decisions. Top of the 1 series is the 1.9 at £1000 and the 2.3 the equivalent WSD model. Trek opt for no carbon rear end but kit it out with Bontagor race wheels and Ultegra/105 groupset instead. Then there are the MadOnes or Madone whatever you call them. These are one of the originators of carbon fibre frame technology and have a pedigree in the manufacturing process. The 4.5 starts the range at £1400 up to the 6.9 at gulp £5000. Evidently there is a lot of choice that sometimes we get confused. Best to pop by the shop and we can find out whats best for you.
