1. Repairs and maintenance are at the heart of our business. We have a busy workshop, and can fix almost anything you can break.
Because we are busy, an appointment is necessary for larger repairs and services. Please call us on 020 7733 6055 for the next available date.
Your bike must be in the shop before 11am (noon on Thursday) on the day of its appointment, but you can bring it in the evening before if that's more convenient. It will normally be ready by 5.30pm that afternoon (6.30pm Thursdays).
When it arrives, we will go over the job with you, noting what you need. At this stage, we should be able to give you an estimate for the job. If we find during the course of the job that you need more work than the original estimate, we will call you before we go ahead. We won't exceed this estimate without discussing it with you, so it's vital that you leave us with a contact number.
2. For smaller, emergency jobs, we have an 'On the Spot' (OTS) slot during the first hour every day we're open (9-10am Monday-Saturday, 10-11am Thursday). We will endeavour to fix your bike while you wait! We work on a first-come first served basis, and so recommend arriving early. This slot can get very busy, especially on Saturdays.
How does our Morning Surgery work? Why do we call it “OTS”?
Every morning we try our hardest to open at 9am (10am onThursdays). On Sundays we're closed.
For the first hour of the day we accept repairs on a first-come, first-fixed basis. There is normally a queue and it’s beautifully frantic. Don’t be scared. Join in!
We can’t “service“ your bike but we can attempt to get the most pressing problem solved.
If for example you need brake pads replacing/adjusting and an inner tube fitted, we can do that.
Bring it on… we will fix. Chain and freewheel replaced? Yes we can! Spoke broke? Come hither! We might find other issues with your bike and we might not
be able to resolve everything but at least you're either roadworthy or informed and halfway there. You can always bring your bike back the next morning for another instalment of love! Call us and we can give you an idea if your bike problem falls into this solution.
VERY IMPORTANT PROVISO… We can’t store your bike for the day or – heaven forbid – longer. Bribery and threats of violence have been tried and have never worked in that combination. WE CAN’T BIKE-SIT! WE AINT GOT THE SPACE! SORRYISH.
It’s called “OTS”. On The Spot
.
So, get in the queue as early as poss. Bring a working mobile phone. We may need to revisit the estimate if we find other problems. Be prepared to return as soon as you get a call to pick it up.
Let’s be frank, most bike shops do require an appointment, and so do we, for larger repairs. But we are unique in the phenomenon that is OTS. Please respect the fact that we don’t have any space to store bikes and don’t be surprised if we get grumpy if you disappear leaving the bike for the whole day. A day's unagreed storage fee is £??.
The Very Rough Guide to BC workshop appointments
We try for a one day turnaround on our services. You're welcome to drop your bike off the evening before the appointed day, and to pick it up the following morning.
Check over? Check over Plus? Service or Senior Service?
Which do I need?
Spin your wheels! Do they wobble from side to side?
Hold your front brake only and rock back and forward! Any knocking?
Can you actually see your bike without having to hose it down?
Hold the pedals and try moving them towards and away from the frame! Any movement?
Hold the chain away from the front chain-ring! Any gap between the teeth and the chain?
Is there anything obviously missing that you need? I.e. A wheel or mudguard or saddle.
If you answer NO to all of the above then you PROBABLY only need a Check over. £40
If YES to one of the above then MAYBE you only need a Check over +. £55
YES to a few of the above then you'll need at least a Full Service. £75
All the above with wheel builds and strip/rebuild is a Senior Service. £120
This is a guide only and we recommend a free consultation for a more accurate estimate -- bring your bike in any time for this. We'll probably need you to take it away again and return with it on the appointed day.

ends up inside your bike
